Biking from Cremieu to Lyon - we saw the Bugey Nuclear power plant. | |
| |
| | | | The outskirts of Lyon. Gravel paths, but very nice and smooth. | |
| |
| | | | This guy had some chickens in the wooden crate on his bike trailer. | | Caught in a cloudburst! It was raining so heavily that I couldn't even blink fast enough to keep the rain out of my eyes. We hung out under this bridge, along with a lot of garbage. |
| |
| | | | Very close to our apartment was building that had just had a fire in the garage. | | Our apartment - very nice, recently remodeled, lots of old stone features, and two bedrooms. No AC but decent fans. |
| |
| | | | | | After drying out, we went out to see the town. This is in the Hôtel de Ville (town hall), there was a graphic novel convention there. |
| |
| | | | Vegetables = Death? I was intrigued, sounds like a carnivore to me! | |
| |
| | | | | |
| |
| | | | Lots of garbage around. | | Steep streets in our neighborhood, which was "Pentes de la Croix-Rousse") |
| |
| | | | There was a Roman ampitheater not too far away. They were having a boxing matches there, specifically for rappers. Or maybe they were just playing rap music between the boxing matches | | There are quite a few steps with murals on them. Too mad they're all covered with grafitti |
| |
| | | | On the funincular up to the Fourvière Basilica. Peter remembered this from our visit when he was younger. | |
| |
| | | | | | Great view of Lyon from the basilica, but...they need to trim some trees! |
| |
| | | | Another old Roman theater | | This is a demonstration of silkwork cultivation - the little balls are cocoons. Silk scarves are a specialty of Lyon. |
| |
| | | | Right across from where we had lunch. | | I can't remember what was so shocking... |
| |
| | | | Some of the sweets of Lyon | |
| |
| | | | At the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon. Peter hung out and read while I went in. | | They had a lovely little cafe there. |
| |
| | | | Beautiful old Art Deco furniture. | |
| |
| | | | A hord of gold, buried in around 1360, during the era of the 100 year war. | | Another hord, buried around 265 AD, around an era of barbarian invasions. |
| |
| | | | Some paintings in the museum that intrigued me. | | Some primitive shoes |
| |
| | | | | | These, newer fountains (really splash pads) are functioning |
| |
| | | | Quite the extremes here - a Body Shop store, with a homeless guy camped out in front, and a bunch of grafitti. And this was on the main shopping street, too. Granted, it was the only setup like this that I saw. | | Another dead fountain. |
| |
| | | | | | And another |
| |
| | | | The beautiful park Tête d'Or | | Absolutely lovely to bike around in there. |
| |
| | | | Peter recreated a picture from when we were here in 2013 (https://www.ericandsylvia.com/pictures/2013/05-11-2013-lyon/) | | Finally, the piano! He had to wait a while, but finally the lady who was playing left. |
| |
| | | | | | Unfortunately most of the zoo at the park was closed, but we did see these giraffes. |
| |
| | | | | | At the food hall Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse. Beautiful but not very busy. |
| |
| | | | | |
| |
| | | | More exploring in our neighborhood in Lyon. | | | | | | | | | | |
